New project ... to highlight the cultural value of Diriyah.

Saudi Arabia plans to develop Diriyah gateway

RIYADH, April 7, 2015

Saudi Arabia is set to launch an ambitious project to develop the Al Bujairi district, the gateway to the historic area of Diriyah, following years of study, said a report.

The development projects will involve the central area, the main incumbent of open activities and commercial services offered to visitors. The central area or plaza will contain shops and rest areas, reported the Arab News.

Saudi monarch King Salman will inaugurate the project on Thursday.

Once the renovation works get completed, the area is expected to see the inflow of tourists and visitors from inside and outside the Kingdom.

The project is aimed at developing Diriyah and highlight its cultural value by creating facilities at its main entrance, it stated.

As part of the project, a commercial complex with 38 shops will also be opened at Tarif neighborhood.

The complex will have outlets selling handicraft items, resaturants offering traditional meals, 30 heritage hotel units and an exhibition for heritage architecture with a center to document the history of Diriyah, the report added.
