SSH wins Kuwait children’s hospital project

KUWAIT, March 23, 2016

SSH, a leading design, construction supervision and project management firm in the Middle East, has won a major contract to provide study and design services for a new children’s hospital in Kuwait.

The deal was awarded by Kuwait’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Works in association with global architects HKS.

The project, to be implemented on a design-award-construct basis, will be located within the Al Sabah Speciality Medical Area in Al Shuwaikh.

Kuwait’s newest children’s hospital will feature a total of 792 beds, split between secondary care, with 160 beds, and the allocated 632-bed tertiary care to suit all medical needs and modes of treatment.

The design concept will be delivered with a ‘Future Hospital Design’ theme in mind with an innovative and functional design incorporating state-of-the-art technology, energy conservation and the highest standard of construction, materials and equipment.

The hospital will provide a comfortable, stress-free and home-like environment for its patients and their respective families.

The facility will also include common diagnostic and treatment services to complement both secondary and tertiary care, along with other non-clinical support and common departments.

Non-healthcare structures, functions and services are also part of the scope, inclusive of a minimum of 2,000 car-parking spaces, a helipad to support emergency air transport services and a free-standing day care centre catering to infants, pre-toddlers and pre-schoolers, dedicated to children of staff working at the proposed facility.

In addition, a shelter for civil defence has been requested, said the company in a statement.

SSH said it has become a leading provider for healthcare planning, architecture and engineering services in the region, with more than 130 projects in its team’s collective portfolio.

Currently, the group's healthcare specialists are working on the Sheikha Salwa Al Sabah Centre for Stem Cells and Umbilical Cord, in Kuwait, the NBK Children’s Cancer Centre as well as the recently-awarded Specialist Clinical Centre for Dentistry, Dermatology and Diabetes, in Qatar.

"SSH’s dedication and ability to cater to the client’s specific needs allow us, together with partners such as HKS, to tailor our services in line with the strategy of our clients," said George Abi Hanna, the resident director for Kuwait.

"We are able to cater to those needs with both internationally-qualified expertise and in-depth knowledge of local regulations, urban landscapes, customs and traditions, whilst focusing on providing the best healthcare quality and standards through the region and state-of-the-art facilities," he added. -TradeArabia News Service
