Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the master developer of major tourism, leisure and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi, has launched Amwaj, a new community centre that offers a diverse range of outlets to service the residents of Saadiyat, a natural island located a 10-minute drive from downtown Abu Dhabi, UAE.  

Saadiyat will boast several luxury resorts, championship beachfront golf courses, sophisticated residential communities, retail destinations and cultural institutions - designed by world-renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architects - such as Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

Located within the Saadiyat Beach Villas, the 2,052-sq-m Mediterranean-style centre features retail and dining outlets, including a Waitrose supermarket which has opened its doors to residents and visitors of the community today, said a statement from TDIC.

The other retail stores include Starbucks, Tips & Toes beauty salon, Circle Café, and Al Manara Pharmacy which are scheduled to open in the near future, it stated.

The centre will also feature a nursery - Redwood Saadiyat Nursery - providing an environment that will allow little ones to learn and play in the Montessori school. Furthermore, the centre will have parking spaces for 75 vehicles, it added.

According to TDIC, the residential community on the island benefits from access to a wide range of hospitality, leisure and retail offerings currently available in the Saadiyat Beach District.

These include The St Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi and its popular retail destination The Collection, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Club.

TDIC is also developing Desert Islands, a heritage-based tourism destination composed of eight islands - Sir Bani Yas Island, the historical Dalma Island and the previously unexplored Discovery Islands.-TradeArabia News Service
