Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it has begun operations to commission, supply, and lay down a 373-km-long water transmission network across the city.

The utility firm said the project will help increase Dubai’s overall water flow, and meet current and future demand and thus provide better services to customers.

Under the project, Dewa will lay a 600-mm to 1,200-mm-diameter water transmission network stretching over 73 km at a cost of Dh444 million ($121 million) followed by a 300-km-long water transmission network with 100mm to 450 mm pipes costing Dh210 million ($57 million).

"These networks will manage the increasing demand for water in the emirate, providing a high-quality infrastructure for Dubai’s sustainable development, based on the highest international standards," stated Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of Dewa.

"Dewa is implementing these projects based on its strategy to enhance its water services to meet all the requirements for development, and achieve the well-being of all Dubai’s residents," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
