Forum to discuss changing face of capitalism

Abu Dhabi, November 18, 2009

The changing face of capitalism, including how regulation and oversight of financial markets will affect the Middle East region, will be discussed at a major conference, being organised by The Economist Group, in Abu Dhabi on November 23.

'The World in 2010 Executive Forum' will be a one day event of topical debate, vital forecasting and essential discussion by expert speakers, said the organisers.

It will throw spotlight on global, regional and local issues expected to have an impact – and provide opportunity – in the Gulf region during 2010 and beyond. This follows the consequences of the global downturn, where weaknesses of the old economic order have been exposed.

"The good news about 2010 is that the world will emerge from recession and the post-crisis economic landscape will become clearer. Less cheerful is what that landscape will look like”, says Daniel Franklin, executive editor of The Economist and editor, 'The World in 2010.'

The experts will discuss which emerging and world markets are likely to be fastest growing, including the outlook for China and India’s consumer economies. A session on ‘Greening the global business agenda’ will look at how political agendas and increased climate change regulation in the West is set to impact the Middle East.

Speakers at the forum include Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, chief executive officer, Masdar; Simon Cooper, deputy chairman and chief executive officer; HSBC Bank Middle East, Kamel Abdallah, executive vice chairman; Aujan Industries and Mohammad Gawdat, managing director Emerging Markets; Google.

More than 150 executive decision-makers representing a range of industries including banking & finance, energy, oil and gas, construction, real estate, manufacturing, travel and tourism, shipping & logistics and telecommunications, will take part.

Interactive technology will allow delegates to vote on top business issues with immediate results analysis and outcomes announced during each session.-TradeArabia News Service
