Student sets new fashion

Dubai, June 24, 2007

French Fashion University Esmod has awarded a bachelor's degree to one of the UAE’s first graduates specialising in fashion design.

Esmod, the internationally acclaimed French fashion institution, honoured the student at a recent ceremony held at the University’s Dubai-based campus.

Muhammad Khadra, 27, was awarded a Bachelors Degree in fashion design and pattern drafting from the University, concluding his fashion studies that he began at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute in the Netherlands.

Born in Beirut and brought up in Oman, Khadra has previously worked as a textile designer in Amsterdam where he won the ‘best textile design’ award by the Prato Textile Museum in Italy.

He was recently spotted in a reality TV show in Beirut called ‘Project Fashion’, where he made it to the final stages of the program and was acknowledged as the second best Arab designer in 2006.

Denis Ravizza, Director, French Fashion University Esmod, said, “This is a great indication of how the UAE is emerging as a producer of fashion, as we have internationally-educated and trained students coming to Dubai to complete their fashion education. By studying in the UAE, students can learn the skills to produce exquisitely tailored fashion that is perfectly designed for the temperature, melting-pot culture and luxurious lifestyle of the emirates.”

“We are delighted to graduate the best talent in the region and we commend Khadra on his success in his studies,” Ravizza added.

Before the graduation, Khadra’s designs were exhibited at a recent fashion show which was judged by a jury comprising high profile fashion representatives.

The jury panel included Mohammed Burjaoui, a Dubai-based fashion designer; Gonzague Duriez, Managing Director of fashion company Arabesque; Carole Vasseur and Than Nguyen, French teachers in Esmod Dubai; Tamara Hostal, Director of French Fashion University Esmod; Francois Deroche, Artistic Director for the famous perfumes brand Guerlain; and Dennis Ravizza.

The young designer has already been spotted by Nomada – a French production society that organises fashion shows, gala dinners, conventions, concerts and other events - who are keen to incorporate his styles into their upcoming displays.TradeArabia News Service
