QEWC to recruit 10pc more Qatari trainees

Doha, April 15, 2009

Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) intends to recruit 10 per cent more Qatari trainees than the planned number this year, as part of its goal to achieve 50 per cent Qatarisation in the earliest possible time, according to a company official.

The company has been participating in the 'Five year Energy Industry Strategic Qatarisation Plan', initiated by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy and Industry since 2002, he said.

With the recruitment of 85 local students last year, QEWC demonstrated its firm commitment to employing an increasing percentage of Qatari nationals through adopting a successful policy of recruitment, retention and quality Qatarisation as well.

The Qatar Government has laid greater emphasis on Qatarisation as the way forward for its surging economy and has placed a number of initiatives in place to encourage the employment of local talents in both the public and private sectors.

Power and water sector being one of the key sectors that support the economy of Qatar, QEWC accords high emphasis and actively pursuits the policy of Quality Qatarisation. Rising demands of power and water sector in Qatar offer extensive job opportunities to the Qatari youths.

The company is aspiring to become a role model company for successful Qatarisation, maintaining its core values of quality, commitment, and competency, he added.

The company also organises career fair every year aiming to recruit suitable Qatari manpower.

QEWC continues to give special emphasis on recruiting and developing Qatari women for various jobs.

“By encouraging nationals to run their own country and seek challenging jobs in the country’s human resource market, decision- makers are signaling apparently that they value the contribution of local talent in nation- building process,” said Fahad Al- Mohannadi, general manager of the company.-TradeArabia News Service
