UoM Dubai invites applications for scholarships

DUBAI, August 16, 2018

The University of Manchester (UoM) Middle East Centre in Dubai is inviting graduate and working engineers from across the region to apply for scholarships for the university’s internationally accredited part-time MSc Reliability & Asset Management (REAM) programme.

The scholarship comprises an award of GBP4,000 ($5,080) towards the course tuition fees, for every eligible student for the September 2018 intake.

The new MSc was launched in the Middle East in January 2018 with the first cohort of 18 students. REAM is one of the first of a number of new industry-led MSc programmes launched in the region by the university.

Reliability engineering and asset management is a sophisticated discipline embracing management techniques, organisation, asset auditing, planning and the application of big data analysis, engineering and analytical knowledge to manufacturing processes, transport, power generation and the efficient operation of industrial, commercial and civic buildings to manage their assets efficiently.

The University of Manchester launched the MSc REAM to help meet the region’s need for professional maintenance strategies and asset management, as the regional economy goes through a digital and industrial transformation.

The two-year, part-time Master’s programme focuses on the practical application of theory to real-world industry needs, while students continue to work and apply their new knowledge in the workplace. It covers various aspects of applied management and technology in the field of REAM, and aims to enhance the capabilities of existing managers in the field through the programme structure and content, as well as new graduates entering the field or those with limited industry experience.

The programme’s teaching staff is internationally recognised professionals with years of experience working in industry and academic institutions. The course is fully accredited by The Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Professor Jyoti Sinha, programme director of the MSc Reliability Engineering & Asset Management, The University of Manchester, commented: “According to a new survey in the UAE, engineering and design is one of the most popular study subjects and also appealing from a career perspective, reflecting the country’s demand for engineering skills.

“The university also recently signed a Strategic Talent Partnership with the Society of Engineers UAE to promote professional education in engineering, research, practice development and professional networking across the Middle East. Our aim is to help build the skills needed to support the industrial transformation of the regional economy and we hope that the scholarship awards will help achieve this.” – TradeArabia News Service
