Bahrain may cut medicine prices

Manama, November 18, 2008

Medicine for chronic diseases could soon be available at half the price in Bahrain following a proposal submitted in Shura council.

The law was urgently presented by five members and will now be studies by the committee concerned before being taken up for discussion during an upcoming council session.

Women and Child committee chairman Dallal Al Zayed said that such medicine was expensive and patients could not afford them.

She said the government was obliged to give free basic medical treatment and medicine to people.

"We just want the government to fund half the price," Al Zayed added.-TradeArabia News Service
