Welch Allyn to showcase new diagnostics range

Dubai, January 25, 2010

Welch Allyn, a US-based manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, will showcase its newest suite of core diagnostic products featuring next generation electronic connectivity at an ongoing healthcare event in Dubai.

The Arab Health Exhibition & Congress, which opened yesterday (January 24), will run up to January 28 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

In addition to previewing a new, portable electrocardiograph (ECG), the company will showcase energy-efficient medical exam lights and a new wireless connectivity module for the Spot Vital Signs LXi—the first of several next-generation Welch Allyn devices that will incorporate the new technology, a statement said.

“This week at Arab Health, Welch Allyn will feature our electronic connected solutions which offer significant clinical and economic benefits to providers,” said Julie Shimer, Welch Allyn president and CEO.

“This is the direct result of the growing demand for device connectivity playing a greater role in healthcare delivery,” she added.

The company will preview a new, lightweight ECG that is connectivity-ready and designed for use in settings where flexibility and efficiency are of utmost importance.

Scheduled for release later this month in select international markets, the Welch Allyn CP 50 ECG has an intuitive design and functionality and offers the speed and power of a fully-featured ECG in a compact, portable size.

In addition to administering patient tests at the push of a button, the device can interface with the Welch Allyn CardioPerfect Workstation software to connect patient data to an electronic health record (EHR) system, health information system (HIS), over the Internet, or through email.

In addition, the company will showcase the Welch Allyn Green Series medical exam lights—some of the first medical exam lights in the world to feature energy-efficient light- emitting diodes (LEDs).

Now available worldwide, the new lights provide 50,000 hours of life and produce white, bright light with a color temperature of 5,500 degrees K, providing caregivers with illumination that offers industry-leading lumen performance.

Welch Allyn will also highlight a new radio that was designed specifically for the medical market and operates on hospitals’ existing wireless systems using 802.11 a/b/g technology.

The radio is currently available for the Welch Allyn Spot Vital Signs LXi—one of the industry’s fastest multi-parameter spot-check devices that can be customized for use in a variety of clinical settings.

The wireless Spot Vital Signs LXi transmits vital signs data to an EHR through the company’s Connex data management software—eliminating the need for clinicians to manually input data. The new 802.11 radio will also be incorporated into the company’s next-generation products currently in development.

“Connectivity is having a profound impact on the way we develop our products,” Shimer said.

“Patient safety and sustainability are primary concerns—in hospitals, remote clinics, and physician offices. We are designing products that offer greater efficiency and more connectivity options to help shape the future of healthcare delivery beyond traditional approaches to connect, manage, and share patient information—and improve patient care in the process,” she concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
