Hearing solution enables Wi-Fi connection to iPhone

DUBAI, April 14, 2015

A new sound processor, which enables wireless connectivity to iPhone and allow users to listen to streamed sounds, is set to be unveiled at an upcoming otolaryngology conference in Dubai, UAE.

The Middle East Otolaryngology Conference & Exhibition (ME-OTO 2015) organised by Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions, will take place at Madinat Jumeirah Arena from April 19 to 21.

Cochlear, Medel, Medtronic, Puretone, Beltone Legend, Phacon and Karl Storz are some of the key participants exhibiting state-of the-art hearing technology at this year’s event.

According to Cochlear, the new Baha 5 Sound Processor is the industry’s smallest bone conduction sound processor and the first made specifically for iPhone technology. With a Baha 5 System, users with hearing implants can now enjoy music, games, movies, and apps streamed straight to their Baha 5.

“The new Baha 5 sound processor, the smallest in the industry, enables wireless connectivity to the iPhone. It will also allow recipients to listen to streamed music from any television,” said Roland Hilgers, Cochlear, EMEA business development manager, Bone Anchored Solutions.

“The Smart Sound iQ technology adapts automatically to the different hearing environments. Focusing on early access to sound and speech development of young children, the new Baha 5 can be worn on a soft band, providing early amplification for children under the age of five years and make the best out of this important phase of speech development.”

ME-OTO will also showcase sophisticated hearing technology that can connect to external devices via Bluetooth or telecoil enabling users to connect to smart phones, FM receivers and other assistive listening devices wirelessly.

“A recent report estimated that at least one in 25 people in the Middle East region are affected by some degree of hearing difficulty,” said Simon Page, managing director, Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions.

“This is higher than the three percent figure released by the WHO in its 2012 report 'WHO global estimates on prevalence of hearing loss’. The 2015 ME-OTO exhibition will feature an array of globally renowned companies bringing the latest technology to the table, some of which is being featured for the first time in the region.”

Running alongside the exhibition, the event features a three-day conference addressing major issues in rhinology, head & neck surgery, otology, audiology & speech therapy, rhinoplasty as well as endoscopic ear surgery and thyroid Cancer. – TradeArabia News Service
