Moorfields to train DMC students

DUBAI, July 15, 2015

Dubai Medical College (DMC) has joined hands with Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai to provide undergraduate students with training in ophthalmology in accordance with the curriculum accredited for undergraduate medical education by the General Medical Council, UK.  

The training will commence in September, for the final year students pursuing Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) degree at DMC, said a statement.
 
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Haj Saeed Ahmed Lootah, the founder and chairman of Dubai Medical College; and Mariano Gonzalez, managing director, Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai.  

The terms and conditions of collaboration were signed by clinical dean Prof Muscat Baron, it said.
 
The college also has such agreements with other advanced facilities in the country and abroad for enhancing student learning, said the statement.

Prof Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed, dean of DMC, said: “We believe in collaboration for learning and such collaborative ventures will help us enrich the curriculum by integrating specialised fields with the primary health care concept."
 
Gonzalez said: “Moorfields’ mission in the Middle East includes providing world class treatment and care for patients but also teaching and research.”

“This agreement with DMC will help us fulfil our mission and enable us to locally support female ophthalmology students in Dubai with undergraduate training to meet international standards,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
