Bahrain Dialysis Centre project enters fast-track

Work is under way to complete the internal and external finishing works at the Bahrain Dialysis Centre project, coming up in the Hunainiya area of the kingdom, along with the other related electrical and mechanical works.

The concrete structure at the Dialysis Centre has been completed, in addition to the construction of the internal and external wall divisions of the main building, said a statement from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.

The sub-power station has been completed and handed over to the Electricity and Water Authority. In addition, the  soil supporting wall has been constructed besides services and external facilities buildings, it stated.

The BD6.08 million ($16 million) project, coming up on a 21,550-sq-m area, is being funded by the Saudi Development Fund as part of the Gulf Development Programme. The project tender was earlier awarded to Aradus Contracting and Maintenance.

The project design takes into account all the necessary facilitations needed for patients and visitors with special needs, which include the provision of parking spaces and slopes close to all entrances, in addition to providing an elevator close to all entrances and rest rooms that accommodate the needs of the disabled, said the ministry in a statement.

The project has also taken into consideration the best green buildings practices, which the Government and the Ministry are keen to apply to all construction projects, it added.

Nearly 70 per cent progress has been achieved in the project so far, which is planned for completion by mid-June this year, revealed Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and urban Planning Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf after touring the Dialysis Centre Project site.

Khalaf was accompanied by Corporate Municipal Services assistant undersecretary and Acting Construction Projects and Maintenance assistant undersecretary Raed Al Salah, Construction Projects director Mariam Amin and several senior officials from the ministry and Aradus Contracting & Maintenance.

The dialysis centre boasts a construction area of more than 8,854 sq m. The main building comprises two levels with a capacity to accommodate 60 beds.

The ground level contains a reception and registration hall, six external clinics, treatment rooms, labs, a pharmacy, X-Ray department, waiting areas, rooms for the nursing team and a central store, said the ministry in its statement.

The first level includes three wings for peritoneal dialysis and blood wash, an isolation wing, a fluid purification station for the fluids used in dialysis and a repair workshop, in addition to the administrative offices and public utilities besides a sub-power station, a guard room and external fence, it stated.

 A parking lot is also provided, with the capacity to accommodate 232 vehicles, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
