DMCA bags four new ISO certifications

DUBAI , January 6, 2016

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, has received four certifications under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the renowned international standard-setting body.

The recognitions reflect the authority’s sharp focus on operational and service excellence in line with the objectives of the Dubai Maritime Sector Strategy (DMSS) and its adherence to the highest international standards in overseeing the emirate’s growth into a premier global maritime hub, said a statement.

Sultan Bin Sulayem, chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and president of DMCA joined the authority’s team in celebrating the issuance of the ISO certificates by Bureau Veritas (BV), a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC), for four quality standards: Quality Management System (QMS) ISO 9001, Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001, Health and Safety Management Systems OHSAS18001, and Information Security Management System (ISMS) ISO 27001.

“The DMCA’s grand vision and strategy for uplifting the regional and global competitiveness of Dubai’s maritime sector and creating a safe and sustainable maritime environment emphasises the implementation of the highest standards of quality, sustainability, health, safety, information security and performance as well as the adoption of the best environmental practices and local and international resolutions,” said Bin Sulayem.

“Our latest accreditation in four important ISO standards affirms our great success in instituting excellence in all the recognised areas. We will continue to raise the bar and embrace best international practices towards our goal of positioning Dubai among the most competitive maritime capitals by 2020 according to the vision of H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,” he said.

To further sustain success, maintain commitments to quality and improve organizational performance in line with DMSS, the DMCA will begin implementing other new quality standards this year. These include the ISO 31000 - Risk Management which will direct DMCA towards achieving its objectives, improving the identification of opportunities and threats, and effectively allocating and using resources for Enterprise Risk Management.

Another benchmark set for implementation starting this current year is the ISO 10001 – Customer Satisfaction Standard which will guide DMCA in planning, designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and improving customer satisfaction codes of conduct, said the statement.

This standard will play a pivotal role in DMCA’s efforts to support the ‘Dubai Model for Government Services’ initiative launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, which aims to optimize efficiency levels in government services and enhance customer satisfaction, it said.

All certifications have been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), the only national accreditation body recognised by the British Government to assess the competence of organizations that provide certification, testing, inspection, and calibration services, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
