Oman plans one-stop-shop for mining licence

MUSCAT, January 17, 2017

Oman’s Public Authority for Mining (PAM) is planning to set up a one-stop-shop facility for investors applying for a mining licence, said a report.

The proposed facility will become a part of the new mining law, and is expected to check any delay and hassles faced by the investors, including foreign ones, in developing mines in the country, said a report from the Times of Oman.

Hilal Al Busaidi, chief executive officer of PAM, said that going forward, the authority will have a different approach in offering opportunities to investors by allocating blocks and themselves finalising all the permits required to be issued by the various ministries.

He added that these permits will then be offered to the investors.

It is a single window clearance system and the investors will receive the block ready to start mining activity. In 2017, the PAM will be able to introduce a major part of the single window clearance system, added the report.
