Trapeze networks Oman university

Muscat, November 7, 2007

University of Nizwa has commissioned Hussam Technology Co (HTC), Trapeze Networks' partner in Oman, to replace the institution's outdoor and indoor wireless networks.

HTC implemented Trapeze's MX 200 controller, the Ringmaster management software and the MP-422 dual radio access points (AP) at the university. The network upgrades were part of initiatives by the learning institution to provide mobile access to information for students, teachers and employees.

The University of Nizwa is a modern educational institution located in the city of Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman and the country's second largest urban community. The university was established to help strengthen higher education in Oman, providing a platform to prepare students to contribute meaningfully to the economic, artistic and aesthetic growth of the country.

'The university wanted the outdoor wireless network to be installed and configured first, which took three weeks to complete. However, most of the work was on cable laying, while actual installation of Trapeze equipment was done in just two days. It was the same in the indoor phase, which lasted one week although installation for the Trapeze equipment was completed in one day,' said HTC Chief Executive Officer Dr Firas Al-Abduwani.

HTC leveraged its extensive experience to provide a thorough RF site survey to the project, whose approximate cost was valued at less than $25,000, while the Trapeze Ringmaster RF Plan tool was utilized to plot and design the entire outdoor wireless network according to the requirements of the university. The RF Plan tool optimises the design of the wireless network by showing the best location for the placement of the APs.

'A reliable and fully functional wireless solution is crucial in maximizing the learning potential of a modern educational institution such as University of Nizwa. Together with Hussam Technology Co., our partner in Oman, Trapeze Networks is delighted to provide a comprehensive solution to the networking requirements of the university,' said Trapeze Networks Regional Manager Feras Zeidan.

Smart Mobile is the only WLAN architecture with intelligent switching, which combines both centralised and distributed data forwarding based on the requirements of the underlying application. The MP-422 APs are capable of distributed forwarding that can result to optimized traffic flow, radically reduced latency, ultra-high performance, and massive scalability, the company said in a statement,

Trapeze Networks solutions can be scaled up when required with the purchase of additional licence and minimal hardware. The unique features of Trapeze make it effective for wireless Data, VoIP communication, video transmission and Real Time Location System (RTLS) as well as the provision of a comprehensive report on WLAN utilisation for optimisation of AP locations, according to the statement. – TradeArabia News Service
