EnviroFone drive backed

Dubai, August 29, 2007

Five disc jockeys from the Arabian Radio Network, home to Dubai 92 and Dubai Eye 103.8, have pledged their support for the nationwide environmental drive to gather old and damaged mobile phones for recycling.

Chris Fisher, David Newsum, Zahra Soar, Johno Bradford and Wes have all donated their old and broken mobile phones to help raise awareness of the EnviroFone campaign on behalf of its patrons, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

More than 65,000 unused mobiles have been collected since mid-June when EnviroFone launched the campaign to protect the environment from contaminated and harmful toxins found in phones and accessories.

“I think its time we woke up to environmental issues in the UAE,” said Chris Fisher, presenter on Dubai 92.

“The rest of the world seems to appreciate the need for caring for our planet, but it doesn’t appear to be high on the agenda for us in Dubai and the surrounding Emirates.”

“This seems a really easy way to make a difference.  When you hear that 65,000 phones have already been dropped off, it shows that each person’s small contribution adds up to have an effect.  I had at least three old phones which didn’t work properly and were sitting in a drawer at home.  I feel at least I’ve done something now to help.”

The drop boxes are located at ENOC petrol stations in Dubai, all ADNOC petrol stations in Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates, Etisalat and du business centres, Al Rostamani currency exchange houses, Spinneys supermarkets, Magrudy’s Book Stores, Lamcy Plaza in Dubai and FedEx locations in the UAE.

Those disposing of unwanted phones in the EnviroFone drop boxes earn instant rewards such as a money off Etisalat and du bills and pre-paid cards, discounts at Japan Furniture Store and Magrudy’s book stores, and free transactions at Al Rostamani exchange houses.

They also go into a raffle for monthly prizes such as Virgin Atlantic return tickets to London, and thousands of Air Miles, which can be redeemed for a wide range of rewards.TradeArabia News Service
