Intersec Middle East 'a huge success'

Dubai, January 16, 2008

Over 800 exhibitors from 53 countries took part in the 10th edition of Intersec Middle East in Dubai which was a great success according to organisers Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH.

Issues of safety and security remained the prime focus of the event as trade visitors braved inclement weather, an unscheduled public holiday and hectic traffic in Dubai to make it a success.

The organisers also announced the launch of Intersec Thailand from December 1 to 3, 2008, at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Thailand.

Intersec Middle East reported a series of deals cumulatively running into millions of Dirhams as preliminary reports came in. A number of exhibitors used the platform to introduce new products to the region, said an official spokesman.

“The weather conditions and the unscheduled holiday notwithstanding, I would like to pay tribute to the resilient spirit of both the participating exhibitors and trade visitors who sought business opportunities with some of them walking over 12-kms from their beach front hotels to get to the venue on the second day of the event,” said senior show manager Intersec Middle East Angela Schierholz.

She noted that a number of participating exhibitors signed deals at the event. “Prominent among the exhibitors that concluded deals included Unique System FZE and Kongsberg Mesotech Ltd. They announced the appointment of Unique as the agent for Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and South Africa for Kongsberg Diver Detection Systems. Kongsberg is the leading supplier of these systems to military, government and industrial security customers, worldwide,” Schierholz added.

Ansell displayed its broad package of industrial gloves, designed to address specific occupational safety hazards targeting the construction and the oil and refining industry.

Easily the most striking product on display at the Intersec this year was RMB Security Services and Vestergaard Frandsen’s LifeStraw personal - a proven water filtration and purification system (device/tool) that not only increases a soldier's operational capability but significantly contributes to their personal well being.

The tool has the potential to offer relief from waterborne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, bacillary dysentery and diarrhea. The device allows clean water to be accessed anywhere where surface water sources are available.
