GCC eGovernments to exchange know-how

Manama, May 5, 2009

The chiefs of eGovernment bodies in the GCC will hold a special session to discuss and share the best practices and experiences at an upcoming eGovernment forum in Bahrain.

The second edition of the Bahrain International eGovernment Forum, which is part of Bahrain’s eGovernment Authority's (eGA) efforts to exchange views and know-how with the countries of the region, will run from May 25 to 27 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

"The session is part of the eGA's effort to find a unified knowledge platform and electronic policy to be built collectively by all the GCC countries in particular and the Middle East countries in general," said Isa AbdulRahman, vice chairman of the forum's organising committee and eGA director of marketing and awareness.

"We seek to combine efforts and available resources to achieve this ambitious objective, which is expected to build a better future for all the countries of the region and enable them to compete internationally in this vital sector," he added.

Two public panel discussions are scheduled to be held on the May 26 and 27, within the activities of the Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2009.

A number of GCC eGovernment chiefs and representatives of international organizations and technology providers will participate in the debate.

The discussions will focus on the challenges and obstacles to the implementation of eGovernment programs, eGovernance, citizens' interaction with eGovernment plans, and the role of the private sector in supporting eGovernments.

The participants will also discuss the experiences of the Gulf nations in the field of eGovernment and the future plans they intend to implement.

Isa AbdulRahman said arrangements have been completed to present the best and most successful local, regional, and international eGovernment practices, as well as the technological solutions that can be applied to achieve excellent implementation of eGovernment programs during the forum.

The forum is being organised by eGA in cooperation with the Bahrain Society of Engineers, the Bahrain Information Technology Society, and the Bahrain Internet Society. – TradeArabia News Service
