Technip has been awarded by Qatar Petroleum a lumpsum front-end engineering design (FEED) contract, worth approximately $60 million, for the Al Shaheen refinery to be built in Messaieed, Qatar.

Technip’s operations and engineering centers in Paris (France) and Abu Dhabi will execute the contract.

The contract covers:

• a grassroots refinery with a nominal capacity of 250,000 barrels per day of crude oil, producing high quality products (mainly gasoline, diesel oil and jet fuel), and

• a crude oil pipeline from the Al Shaheen field to Messaieed (90km offshore and 110km onshore), as well as other required import/export facilities.

The refinery will incorporate some of the most technologically advanced conversion units for upgrading bottom of the barrel products.

The facilities are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2011.
