Poland will finalise a liquefied gas delivery deal with Qatar in late April, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, a move to diversify its energy imports with tanker shipments of the super-cooled gas.

Poland wants to build an LNG import terminal by 2014 in order to break its dependence on Russian gas.

'In early spring, at end-April, Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani is invited to Poland. This will be a perfect opportunity to conclude our agreement,' Tusk told reporters on the sidelines of the economic forum in Davos.

The issue of Poland's gas supply diversification intensified after the row between Ukraine and Russia over prices which resulted in reduced gas deliveries to some eastern and southern European states.

Despite the resolution of the dispute Poland still receives only about 76 percent of its contracted gas from Russia since RosUkrEnergo - the intermediary transiting Russian gas to Poland - was sidelined when Kiev and Moscow came to agreement.-Reuters
