Derrick Services wins deals in Mideast

Abu Dhabi, November 4, 2010

Oil & Gas industry construction company Derrick Services (UK) Ltd (DSL) has secured significant contracts in the Middle East and North Africa, the company said in a statement.

DSL expanded into the Middle East a year ago with a base in Abu Dhabi serving the Middle East. It is about to open an additional operation in Algeria to serve client demand, it said.

The company has been awarded a contract worth $3 million from CTF of Tunisia for the engineering and project planning for the decommissioning of the CTF Rig 05 from Platform 2. This award comes on the back of recent Feed studies carried out by DSL for the Operators Serept/OMV and decommissioning of the rig, including the mud systems, bulk storage and prime movers, and is expected to commence in December 2010, the company said.

DSL managing director Mike Smith said: “Having decommissioned and relocated this rig for CTF in 2008, we are delighted that CTF have again chosen DSL to provide the engineering, project management and planning for this project, as well as the anticipated supply of all the offshore construction services associated with both the decommissioning and relocation of the rig to the next platform.

“This type of project enables DSL to perfectly demonstrate the full range of services that we have in house for supporting offshore construction projects such as this. We have developed strong working relationships with CTF and Serept/OMV through previous projects and we are very excited about further strengthening those relationships on this project,” Smith said

DSL has also recently been awarded a contract for Enafor in Algeria for the inspection and re-certification of their land drilling rigs as well as a similar deal by Abu Dhabi’s National Drilling Company (NDC) covering nearly 30 offshore and onshore rigs in the Middle East.

Smith said: “We will shortly be opening an office in Hassi Messoud to support our inspection and re-certification contracts in-country. This approach ensures the highest safety standards are followed and offers a cost-effective option for operators and major sub-contractors.’’
