Iraq begins operating LPG pipeline in southern region
BAGHDAD, April 14, 2016
Iraq began operating a $150 million liquefied petroleum gas pipeline on Wednesday to supply the southern region with cooking and heating fuel, the oil ministry said in a statement.
The 202-kilometre pipeline will carry the fuel from the Basra region to Nassiriya, with further extensions planned in the future northward to Baghdad, it said.
Iraq's LPG production is rising as more of the fuel is being produced from gas associated with crude, as part of a plan to reduce flaring.
Opec's second largest producer behind Saudi Arabia, Iraq's oil production has risen steadily in 2015, reaching a record 4.775 million barrels per day last January. --Reuters
