Gulf residents prefer shopping in Singapore

Dubai, May 16, 2012

Gulf residents are increasingly choosing Singapore, as their preferred destination for world-class shopping, said a senior official at Singapore’s national tourism agency.

Statistics from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) revealed that visitors from the Gulf generally spend more in Singapore than tourists from most Western and Asian countries.

The board also forecasted a 20 per cent spike in Gulf visitors this summer.

Mohamed Hafez, area director for STB in the Middle East, said: “I believe that the upcoming Great Singapore Sale which kicks off later this month will appeal greatly to Gulf nationals, particularly in the run up to Eid Al Fitr celebrations taking place later in the summer season.”

“Gulf nationals love to shop, but they prefer international destinations that offer both top luxury brands and great value, and that is a dynamic not easily found in North America, Europe, Asia, or even most of the Middle East.”

“Singapore, with its annual Great Singapore Sale, truly is unique in its singular approach to providing luxury shopping for the Gulf’s value-conscious consumers,” said Hafez.

“The Great Singapore Sale will take place from May 25 until July 22, drawing shoppers to a myriad of tempting promotions, special hotel offerings, and plenty of late night shopping, dining and entertainment.”

“Gulf visitors can get a head start on their Eid Al Fitr shopping and find more for less on fashion, watches, jewelry, electronics, toys and more in world-class shopping malls, centres and outlet stores in Singapore that offer a vast variety of shopping choices,” he said.

MasterCard holders will enjoy exclusive privileges, redeem sensational rewards and win exciting experiences when they purchase on their credit card, the statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
