Bomb hoax delays Bahrain flight

Manama, September 5, 2011

A Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Bahrain was delayed by two hours after the airline’s staff received an anonymous call claiming a bomb was on board. It turned out to be a hoax.

The flight 9W 592 took off at 9.30pm instead of its original departure time of 7.30pm. Security agencies were alerted and the Kochi-Mumbai-Bahrain flight was thoroughly checked.

The Boeing 737 flight was carrying 154 passengers and crew members, an airline official said. The flight was later expected to depart for Mumbai an hour later, three hours behind schedule from Bahrain, sources said.

Meanwhile, an aircraft from Indian budget carrier Spice Jet made an emergency landing yesterday in Mumbai due to a technical problem.

The emergency landing came as airport personnel were still working to free a Turkish Airlines plane which veered off the runway on Friday after landing from Istanbul. – TradeArabia News Service
