Bahrain Tourism reviews Manama souk revamp progress

MANAMA, June 11, 2017

The Old Markets Committee, under the umbrella of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), held its regular meeting at the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) on June 8.
 
The meeting was attended by Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, chief executive officer of the BTEA along with the First Deputy chairman of BCCI and head of the Old Market Committee, Khalid Rashid Al Zayani.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the Manama Souk Revamp study carried out by the committee in close cooperation Hank Dittmar, advisor at the BTEA.

The meeting also discussed the feedback received following a press conference held earlier that revealed the latest details pertaining to the project.

The Joint Committee also stated during the meeting that the second detailed study conducted by the expert Dittmar will soon be received. The study will include all the requirements and estimated costs related to the project. The committee appointed Dr. Ali Hassan Follad, Advisor to the BTEA, to follow up on the completion of the study along with the committee members and Dittmar.

A proposal was also discussed to develop a micro-clinic in Manama Souq in response to BTEA’s directives to create a platform for the benefit of the Bahraini craftsmen aimed at promoting the industry. Also discussed was BTEA proposal to replace the current shops in Tawawish area of the souk into traditional restaurants and cafes outlets.

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) also proposed that it provide wheelchair facilities for senior citizens and visitors.

Al Zayani, emphasised on the importance of executing the project based on best practice and standards in order to ensure its timely and successful completion.

Shaikh Khalid stressed on the importance of holding such meetings in order stay updated with the significant achievements accomplished during the development of the project, further stating that the development of Manama Soul will meet the needs of residents due to the important tourist and commercial nature of the area.

The Committee also highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation between all governmental and private bodies concerned in order to achieve the objectives of the project and its overall success. - TradeArabia news Service
