Meridien Al Aqah marks UAE National Day

Dubai, December 2, 2007

Le Méridien Al Aqah is hosting a variety of traditional Arabic themed initiatives to mark UAE’s National Day celebrations.

The events began on November 29 and will continue till December 5.

To celebrate the culture and heritage of the UAE, a combination of indoor and outdoor activities are planned, including a traditional UAE welcome tent. A short film focusing on the history of the UAE will also be aired in hotel rooms, said an official spokesman.

On a section of the beach, guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the traditional Arabic way of life through fishing, cooking, and handmade art and crafts.

A number of cultural exhibitions showcasing historic UAE artifacts such as old coins, stamps and pictures of past rulers of the Emirates will also be on display. To mark the celebrations, the hotel will be adorned with UAE themed décor and will have the biggest UAE flag in the East cost flying high for all to see.

In addition to this, the hotel will visit local hospitals where they will meet with the elderly and distribute gifts to sick children.

On December 4, the bi-annual Monodrama Festival will take place. Celebrities from the Arabic acting world including Doraid Laham from Syria and Nour Al Sharif from Egypt will be present to initiate “Arabian Hope” – where a section of Al Aqah’s gardens will be dedicated to future hope and prosperity of the UAE.

Also taking place throughout the week-long celebrations of UAE National Day is an educational programme which will centre on the growth and prosperity of UAE culture.

As a final part of the cultural and traditional celebrations, Le Méridien Al Aqah will accompany a group of international guests to the nearby village in order to provide them with a deeper understanding of the local traditions and practices, cultural roots and historic background.  – TradeArabia News Service
