Drone attack near Dubai airport halts flights for a while

Operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) were temporarily suspended after an Iranian drone attack in the vicinity of the airport terminals, according to a statement from the Dubai Media Office.

Flight operations resumed later, according to reports.

Dubai authorities have confirmed that a minor incident resulting from the fall of debris after an interception has been successfully contained. No injuries have been reported. Authorities have also denied reports circulating on social media regarding any incidents at Dubai International Airport, it said.

"For the safety of passengers, airport staff, and airline crew, operations at Dubai International (DXB) have been temporarily suspended. All procedures are being managed in line with established safety protocols," said Dubai Airports.

Dubai Airports confirmed partial resumption of operations from today (March 7), with some flights operating out of Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC).

"Travellers are urged to not travel to the DXB or DWC unless they have been contacted by their airline that their flight is confirmed, as schedules continue to change," it said.

Over the past 84 hours, more than 1,140 flights have been facilitated at DXB and DWC to help travellers return home.

During the period March 2 to 5, more than 500 flights have departed DXB and DWC, providing 105,000 outbound seats to more than 80 countries and the number continues to increase dramatically every day.

"We are adding more and more flights to our schedule every day. Please continue to check the status of your flight with your airline," Dubai Airports said.

Emirates airline said it has resumed operations. Passengers who have confirmed bookings for this afternoon’s flights may proceed to the airport and this includes customers transiting in Dubai, if their connecting flight is also operating, it said. - TradeArabia News Service
