SLB acquires HydraWell to boost well decommissioning efficiency

SLB acquires HydraWell to boost well decommissioning efficiency

SLB has completed the acquisition of HydraWell Intervention AS, a Norway-based company specializing in plug and abandonment (P&A) and well integrity remediation.

The deal strengthens SLB’s portfolio with HydraWell’s proprietary perforate, wash, and cement (PWC) technology, designed to improve efficiency and reduce costs as the industry faces increasing well decommissioning demands.

HydraWell’s PWC technology enables the creation of high-quality rock-to-rock barriers without requiring milling or casing retrieval, simplifying operations.

Backed by strong intellectual property and proven field performance, the technology streamlines wellbore cleaning, barrier placement, and verification, supported by advanced modeling techniques.

This acquisition enhances SLB’s ability to deliver reliable and cost-effective solutions for mature assets across a wide range of well integrity and decommissioning needs.

The PWC method offers a more efficient alternative to traditional techniques like section milling and casing removal, while also supporting zonal plugging and other remediation applications.

With the global P&A market expected to grow significantly, the acquisition reinforces SLB’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence.

By integrating HydraWell’s technology with its global capabilities, SLB is well positioned to lead in responsible well decommissioning and integrity management worldwide.

“This acquisition represents an important step in SLB’s strategy to deliver transformative solutions for our customers,” said Frederik Majkut, president, Reservoir Performance, SLB. “By integrating HydraWell’s groundbreaking technology with the global expertise and intervention capabilities of SLB, we are uniquely positioned to redefine operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness in well decommissioning and other well integrity remediation challenges.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
