Bahrain takes steps to implement Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway project

Bahrain's Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa has directed the Works Ministry to initiate the necessary procedures to implement the Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway Development Project.

He also instructed the ministry to complete the project in line with the highest standards of quality and efficiency, within the approved timelines, in a manner that enhances traffic flow and supports the kingdom’s advanced road infrastructure network, a Gulf Daily News report said.

Shaikh Khalid issued the directive as he chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Development Projects and Infrastructure.

The committee expressed its thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad for ratifying and issuing Law (14) of 2026, approving the framework agreement on contributing to the financing of the second phase of the highway development project between the government of Bahrain and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

It also thanked the Shura Council and Parliament for approving the draft law, reflecting constructive co-operation between the executive and legislative branches in support of the kingdom’s comprehensive development process.

The committee welcomed the ministry’s steps to strengthen partnership with the private sector through its engagement with the Association of Engineering Offices, highlighting developments and improvements to the "Benayat" building permit system, as well as positive performance indicators and the number of permits issued.

It also reviewed developments related to the Manama waterfront development project and efforts to enhance the area’s tourism and investment appeal.

The committee discussed progress on the Muharraq development project, reviewing details of housing works, the development of key roads, and the creation of parks and expansion of green spaces and afforestation, in a manner that preserves the city’s historical character and meets the aspirations of its residents, in addition to updates on the guideline for development in heritage and historical areas.

The committee also followed up on the availability of key construction materials in the local market to ensure the continued smooth progress of development and urban projects.
