The mountain villages in the Governorate of South Al Batinah in Oman are experiencing a notable acceleration in tourism investment, driven by their rich natural assets and stunning terrain.
These attributes have
positioned the region as an attractive destination for hospitality projects
ranging from heritage inns to eco-lodges (green lodges).
This growth aligns
with Oman's broader strategy to
diversify and enhance the sustainability of its tourism product.
Data related to investment in this sector show a notable
concentration in three main wilayats: A’Rustaq, Nakhal, and Al Awabi, with a
total of 18 mountain tourist establishments providing approximately 154 hotel
rooms, reported Oman News Agency.
This reflects growing interest in developing mountain
tourism and meeting the needs of visitors seeking an authentic environmental
and cultural experience.
The Wilayat of A’Rustaq topped the list in terms of the
number of tourist establishments in mountain villages, hosting 10 facilities
offering 112 hotel rooms, with a variety of classifications including
guesthouses, heritage inns, and eco-lodges, in addition to a tourist camp, rest
houses, and one one-star hotel.
These establishments are spread across several prominent
mountain locations such as Wadi Bani Awf, Wadi Al Sahtan, and Wadi Al Hoqein,
as well as mountain villages with distinct tourism appeal such as Balad Seet,
Bima, and Wajma village, thereby enhancing the wilayat's attractiveness as an
integrated tourist destination.
In the Wilayat of Nakhal, the number of mountain tourist
establishments reached 7, providing 33 rooms, most of which are concentrated in
guesthouses (6 establishments), in addition to one eco-lodge.
These investments are located in natural and mountain areas
such as Wadi Mistal and the villages of Hadash, Wakan, Al Hajar, and Al Taw.
These tourist facilities have contributed to enhancing the
tourism appeal of the mountain villages and surrounding wadis.
In the village of Al Aliyah in Wadi Bani Kharous, the
Wilayat of Al Awabi, there is one mountain tourist establishment classified as
a guesthouse, offering 9 rooms.
This indicates promising opportunities to enhance tourism
investment in mountain areas, particularly as these villages offer a tranquil
environment for recreation and a passion for adventure, especially given their
natural assets and mountain terrain suitable for this type of tourism.
This growing investment momentum underscores the importance
of mountain villages in supporting the tourism sector in the Governorate of
South Al Batinah.
These establishments contribute to stimulating local economic activity, generating job opportunities, and enhancing the participation of local communities in tourism development, in line with the objectives of "Oman Vision 2040," which aims to diversify national income sources and promote sustainability.
