Applus+ Indonesia completes advanced piping inspection for MCCI

Applus+ Indonesia has supported Merak Chemical Indonesia (MCCI) in an advanced inspection project to assess the condition of critical operational piping systems at its chemical manufacturing facility in Merak, Banten.

The project forms part of MCCI’s ongoing asset integrity management programme and was designed to provide detailed information on piping conditions, support maintenance planning and help ensure the safe and reliable operation of key process assets.

To address the challenges posed by demanding operating conditions, Applus+ deployed Inverse Wavefield Extrapolation (IWEX), an advanced ultrasonic inspection technology.

The technique was used to identify and assess potential integrity threats, including corrosion, wall thinning, cracking, internal and external defects, and other structural anomalies.

IWEX reconstructs wave propagation within inspected components to produce detailed images of their internal condition.

The technology enabled enhanced defect detection, sizing and characterisation while allowing MCCI to maintain normal operations during the inspection programme.

Applus+ combined specialist inspection expertise with advanced imaging capabilities to deliver reliable data from in-service piping assets.

The results provided MCCI with clearer insights into the condition of its infrastructure, supporting risk assessment, maintenance planning and future inspection strategies.

The project highlights Applus+ Indonesia’s ability to deploy advanced non-destructive testing technologies to help industrial operators strengthen asset integrity, improve maintenance decisions and enhance the safety, reliability and long-term performance of critical infrastructure.-OGN/TradeArabia News Service
