Qatar’s museum landscape has expanded with Lawh wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, an immersive cultural institution dedicated to the life and work of renowned modern artist M. F. Husain.
Opened by Qatar Foundation in Education City in November
2025, the museum has welcomed more than 9,000 visitors and was named among TIME
magazine’s World’s Greatest Places 2026.
It is also a member of the International Council of Museums
(ICOM).
The world’s first museum dedicated to Husain, Lawh wa Qalam
explores his artistic journey through paintings, photography, tapestries,
sculptures and watercolours.
Highlights include The Artist and His
Model, Doll’s Wedding and works from India’s 100 Years of
Struggle for Freedom.
Interactive installations, including a 360-degree immersive
room and a Praxinoscope featuring scenes from Husain’s films, complement the
galleries.
A dedicated section explores Husain’s connection to Qatar
and his planned series of 99 paintings on Arab and Islamic civilisation.
He completed more than 30 works before his death in 2011.
The museum has also delivered nearly 50 workshops and
learning activities for more than 700 participants. -TradeArabia News Service
