Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has unveiled a series of major digital initiatives, including its Autonomous Production Programme, Digital Twin project and agentic artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, marking a step in its efforts to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen safety and accelerate digital transformation across its value chain.
The announcements were made during PDO’s Autonomous and
Digital Transformation Day, held under the auspices of Abdullah Salim Al
Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, reported Oman News Agency.
The event forms part of the Company's Journey of
Transformation and Ignite Digital initiative, building on the momentum
generated by its Hackathon 2.0 in June 2026.
The event showcased PDO’s progress towards creating a more
connected and intelligent operating environment, integrating digital
capabilities across the hydrocarbon value chain, from exploration and field
development to well construction, production and export, alongside supporting
corporate functions.
A key highlight was the launch of the Autonomous Production
Programme, which brings together AI, advanced process control, real-time data
analytics, drones and robotics to transform the way production assets are
operated and managed.
The programme aims to shift operations from reactive
problem-solving towards predictive and increasingly autonomous capabilities,
enabling earlier detection of potential issues, faster interventions and more
effective asset optimisation.
As these capabilities develop, PDO will progressively
introduce autonomous decision-making and actions within established operational
controls and under human oversight.
By integrating people, data and advanced technologies, the
programme is expected to improve operational reliability, enhance safety,
optimise production performance and reduce operating costs.
The Company also launched its Digital Twin project, which
will integrate physical assets with digital models, live operational data and
advanced analytics.
The technology will provide greater visibility into asset
performance, support predictive insights and enable faster, more informed
operational decisions.
Further advancing its AI capabilities, PDO announced its
first agentic AI initiatives, building on ADAM, its internal generative AI
assistant.
These solutions will extend the use of AI beyond information
retrieval to supporting decision-making and executing defined tasks within
appropriate governance and control frameworks.
At the enterprise level, PDO introduced Wisal, a digital
solution designed to deliver a more seamless, connected and integrated employee
experience.
In parallel with these launches, PDO signed a five-year
strategic partnership with SLB and Halliburton to advance digital well
construction through seven integrated digital capabilities linking subsurface
planning with well execution.
The partnership will help standardise engineering workflows,
strengthen cross-functional collaboration and improve productivity through more
consistent, data-driven decision-making.
It will also contribute to developing national talent
through specialised training, graduate opportunities and knowledge transfer.
Reinforcing its commitment to local content and the
development of Oman's technology sector, PDO signed a Memorandum of
Collaboration with Onsor Technology, an Omani technology company, to support
the adoption of locally developed computing devices across its operations.
The collaboration will create opportunities for Omani technology solutions to be deployed in an industrial environment, while supporting local innovation, product development and national technological capabilities.
