GE holds blood donation camp in Bahrain

Manama, December 27, 2009

General Electric Company (GE) employees in Bahrain participated in a blood donation campaign.

Over 25 employees of GE in Bahrain took part in the blood donation campaign at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, the biggest medical facility in Bahrain serving 90 per cent of the nation’s population.

Some 16 participants and 16 supporters from GE also signed up for the Bahrain Marathon Relay marking the company’s fourth consecutive year of participation. The participants took part in regular training session to enhance fitness and stamina for the event, organised by Bahrain Round Table to raise funds for various local charities.  GE employees ran a total of 47 km, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

“The blood donation camp was particularly crucial as a recent study shows that 25 per cent of the people might need donated blood once or twice in their lifetime. Salmaniya Medical Complex serves as a hub for blood requirements of various hospitals, and our campaign will help meet the needs of patients in critical condition,” stated Ahmed Qasem, leader of GE Volunteers in Bahrain.

Some 175 GE Volunteer Councils in 46 countries and over 100,000 volunteers undertake over 1 million hours of community service every year, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
