L&T Infotech targets $100m ME business

L&T Infotech, one of India’s fastest growing IT services companies, is to open a regional office in Dubai.

The office will service the Arabian Gulf and Levant with a target of $100 million in business within three years.

L&T Infotech is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the $5 billion turnover Larsen & Toubro Limited, India’s largest technology, engineering and construction company with global operations.

More than 60 per cent of Larsen & Toubro’s business currently comes from the oil and gas industry, ranging from fabrication of oil platforms; construction and commissioning of platforms and refineries; control and automation for refineries; and supply, installation and commissioning for petrochemical retailing.

L&T Infotech – a major exhibitor at Gitex Technology Week, which takes place from September 8 to 12 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre -  is also developing substantial business in other sectors including, financial services; manufacturing (auto, industrial, chemical, aero, construction equipment and engineering and construction); and product engineering services.

The energy and petrochemicals business in the Middle East has been a prime focus area for the company and clients include regional majors such as Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Company and Oman Methanol. In addition L&T Infotech has a impressive list of clientele such as ETA Group, Al Shirawi Group, Saud Bahwan Group to name a few.

“Our company services clients across the energy value chain from exploration and production, storage and distribution, refining, logistics and retailing,” said D P Sharma, associate vice president responsible for the Middle East.

“The services and solutions we offer include applications for information management, IT for capital projects, connectivity, data analytics and locational intelligence, among many others.

“Our ultimate objective in establishing a regional office in Dubai Internet City is to grow our business to $100 million within the next two to three years.”

The Mumbai-headquartered company recently received for the second consecutive time a supplier of the year award from global oil major Chevron. L&T Infotech was selected by Chevron for the honour from among 43 of its IT suppliers worldwide.

To sharpen its strengths, L&T Infotech has aligned with the University of Petroleum in India; the Indian School of Petroleum; and the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai; and works closely with them on research projects in oil and gas.

The company also runs Centres of Excellence for Oracle, SAP, Microsoft and oil and gas, information management; a dedicated solutions centre for oil and gas in Houston, Texas; and an Innovation Lab in technology partnership with Microsoft.

The company’s development centres in Manila, Philippines; and San Ramon, California; strengthen offshore delivery centres in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune in India. Another centre is proposed for the Middle East, it said. –TradeArabia News Service
