Fujitsu Siemens pretax pofit up 15pc

Munich, April 21, 2008

Fujitsu Siemens Computers increased its profit before tax by 15 per cent from 91 to 105 million euros ($143 million to $165 million) during the fiscal year 2007.

Announcing the financial results for the period from April 2007 to March 2008, the company said its revenue had risen just above 6.6 billion euros.

This is a decrease of 4.9 per cent reflecting the company’s strategic business changes and the difficult market environment, said a company official.

President and CEO Bernd Bischoff said the company had been re-built over the last year with an aim to become the leading European IT Infrastructure Provider.

"The building work is now mostly over but our new face to the customer, our new identity has to be lived across our company. This is why our major investment in the current fiscal year and beyond will be in supporting and enabling our people to realize our company vision. And: Where we invest, we grow," he noted.

Over the last 12 months revenues have been affected by the strategic shift in the company’s structure and portfolio.

Revenue has been negatively affected in areas which were foreseen and expected but also in areas outside the company’s control.

"For example, the revenue stream from the hardware maintenance business has been pro-actively shifted to partners and product lines such as TVs and PDAs have been removed from our portfolio. Forces outside of our control such as the impact of a strong Euro, and the strong downward pressure on the average selling price have further impacted our revenue situation," Bischoff pointed out.

Focus on Primergy servers and Mobility products continued to reap rewards with the x86 server business being confirmed (together with Fujitsu) as the fastest-growing vendor among the top five in the worldwide server market with 19.8 percent growth in the x86 server market in Q4 of 2007.

In Mobility in Western Europe Fujitsu Siemens Computers grew above the market in the commercial notebook segment in Q4 CY07, achieving the highest growth among the top 10 mobile vendors with 45 per cent year-on-year and growing above the market in 12 countries.

Bischoff said in the last few months the company has seen some major long-term wins for its managed services business.

"But of course these are not yet reflected in our revenues. They are clear proof-points for us of our growth potential and that customers are increasingly turning to Fujitsu Siemens Computers to serve them in their business needs."

"Over the next 3 years the company aims to increase services revenue significantly, capitalizing on the formation of an integrated sales force and the definition of an industry-leading portfolio."-TradeArabia News Service
