Bahrain motor show set for comeback

Manama , June 26, 2011

One of Bahrain's top motor show events is set to make a comeback after being postponed during the unrest, said the organisers.

The events of the last few months had made them determined to make it the world's best, added the organisers of the third edition of the Bahrain International Motor Show.

The show was due to take place at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in March, but was postponed as a result of clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces.

The event, which is being organised by local motor-trade specialists Auto Collection, will now take place in November and is expected to attract record crowds.

'The third show will feature a combination of live track events and exhibition activities,' said Auto Collection chief executive officer Wassim Sami Farhoud.

'This way, we'll be able to have a number of things happening at the same time. So far we have lined up monster trucks, stunt bikes, music and lots of family entertainment.”

'We'll also have classic and supercar displays, test-driving as well as a full exhibition of around 60 companies, mostly local. The monster truck show was a great success at the last event in 2009, so we are hoping to have even more of them this year. We have also confirmed international stunt driver Terry Grant will be coming to Bahrain to take part,” he added.

Farhoud admitted his frustration at seeing the fully-booked March 24 to 26 event postponed, but said he was confident the re-scheduled event would be better.

'It was fully booked in March, so we're currently in discussions with those companies to get them back in November,' he said. 'I think we'll do even better. The events in Bahrain have made people work even harder and with more focus to get the country back on track.”

'The participating companies know Bahrain and they trust us when we say everything is okay, so I don't think there will be any problem.'

Farhoud went as far as to predict an increase of 100 per cent in attendance from the last event in April 2009.

'Of course, we have learned from previous shows and the mistakes we made,' he said. 'It's not as if we wake up with all the experience and a perfect show. From previous shows we now know more about what people want and we adapt things to show this. At the first show in 2007 we had just a drag event and attracted 5,000 people.”

'In 2009, we had a lot more activities and we got 15,000 people, but there were still a lot of shortfalls.”

'This year we have moved on and developed again and I would expect to double the attendance and get more than 30,000 people to the show. We aspire to be the best show in the world,” he added.

The official opening ceremony will take place under royal patronage at the BIC in Sakhir on November 3.

The show will be open to the public that evening and continue on November 4 and 5. – TradeArabia News Service
