Fujitsu Siemens launches new notebook

Dubai, February 15, 2009

Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) has launched its new ‘ultra-compact’ Lifebook P8020.

“Professionals need to be constantly ‘connected’ and the new Lifebook P8020 is a stylish, high-performance companion for everyday business life in the office or on the go,” said Chandan Mehta, product manager, FSC. “Ideal both as a desktop alternative or a fully fledged mobile workplace it is as indispensable as a mobile telephone for frequent travelers providing a large range of functions in a compact, long lasting device.”

The Lifebook P8020 has a 12.1-inch display and weighs 1.3 kg, and is powered by an Intel Centrino 2 processor.

High energy efficiency levels – due to built-in energy-saving functions such as the EcoButton – mean that the device can run without a power source for the whole working day, a statement said.

As an added feature, a MobilityCenter button guides the user directly to the mobile settings, and the LaunchCenter button jumps to the configuration profile. While the LockWorkstation button enables users to shutdown the system in a matter of seconds, providing additional security for data and hardware that is essential when travelling.

Other technical highlights include unrestricted connectivity thanks to the built-in high-speed 3G/UMTS module, top-quality security equipment such as a fingerprint sensor, SmartCard controller and TPM module, as well as amazing energy efficiency. The latter is due to its ultra-low voltage processor, which has been specially developed for small systems: it uses very little power and is thus the ideal component for high level mobility. An optional 64 GB SSD completes the attractive offering.

However, in contrast to its predecessor P8010, it is now all in black with the palm rest matching the rest of the housing instead of being anthracite in color. FSC has also equipped the Lifebook P8020 – and its entire range of notebooks – with WLAN and Bluetooth, as well as including the option of built-in high-speed 3G/UMTS, as well as a built-in webcam.

A SmartCard controller, the option of a TPM module and an integrated fingerprint sensor is also incorporated into the notebook. The stable magnesium cover, the spill-proof keyboard and the ShockSensor reliably protect the hard disk against any physical damage.

The notebook will be available shortly in the Middle East through leading retailers, the statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
