Saudi Arabia's Petro Rabigh, a joint venture between state oil giant Aramco and Japan's Sumitomo Chemical, has appointed Engineer Othman Ali Al Ghamdi as the new chief executive effective January 1, 2021, replacing Nasser Al Mahasher, who resigned from his post recently.
An industry veteran with over 30 years of diversified experience in refining and petrochemical business, Al Ghamdi had various assignments in wholly-owned refineries, domestic JVs, and Saudi Aramco International JVs at China and South Korea.
Othman is currently the CEO at Saudi Aramco Mobile Refinery (Samref), a post he has been holding since July 2019. Prior to that, Al Ghamdi was the CEO of S-Oil Corporation at South Korea from September 2016 to June 2019, said the company in a statement.
During his assignment there, Al Ghamdi was named the best CEO in South Korea for 2018 by the Korean Management Association. Also, he had served as representative director of Aramco Korea Office in 2015/16 for one year.
Al Ghamdi has a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) as well as a Master degree in Business Administration at KFUPM, it stated.
He had joined Saudi Aramco as an engineer in 1990 and started his career at Ras Tanura Refinery where he held various engineering positions. In 2004, he moved to International Operation for an overseas assignment at China where he assumed different leadership positions in Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Company.
In 2009, Al Ghamdi returned to Saudi Aramco at Riyadh Refinery as Engineering Superintendent. In June 2012, Othman was appointed as Manager of Ras Tanura Refinery Operations, a post he held until June 2015, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
