US President Donald Trump met today (July 15) at the White House with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al Zaidi, who is on a visit to the United States.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and the talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic ties and enhancing cooperation in energy, according to statements released after the meeting.

Trump said the US had supported Iraq in its fight against Islamic State, also known as Daesh, and would continue backing Al-Zaidi's government in efforts to promote stability and advance economic initiatives. He also highlighted Iraq's importance to global energy markets.

He also underscored Iraq’s significant importance in the fields of energy and the global economy.

Prime Minister Al-Zaidi affirmed Iraq needs a strategic partner of the stature of the United States to overcome the economic and technological challenges it faces.

In remarks following his meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi stated that his visit aims to build a strong economic partnership, focusing on opportunities that support the interests of both countries.

According to a statement from the Iraqi prime minister's media office, the two leaders also exchanged views on security and intelligence cooperation and discussed ways to strengthen joint efforts to promote regional stability.
