Saudi-Chinese consortium wins $348m sewage plants maintenance deal

A Saudi-Chinese consortium comprising Armada and Zhangzhou United Waters has secured a SAR1.3 billion ($348 million) long-term operation and maintenance (LTOM) contract from Saudi Arabia's National Water Company (NWC) for nine sewage treatment plants (STPs) across four regions of the kingdom.

Under the 15-year LTOM contract, the Saudi-Chinese consortium will be responsible for the rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of the sewage treatment facilities in Unaizah, Al-Bukairiyah, Al-Muznib, Al-Ras, Hail 1, Hail 2, Baqa’a, Sakaka and Turaif which will boast a total designed treatment capacity of more than 337,000 cu m per day.

The contract was signed by National Water Company CEO Dr Fuad Al Shikhmubarak alongwith Armada Executive Director Jamaan Al Jamaan and Zhangzhou United Waters CEO Liu Meng at a special ceremony held at NWC’s headquarters in Riyadh.

NWC said the long-term agreement forms part of its strategy to attract private-sector investment into the rehabilitation and operation of existing strategic water and wastewater assets, while improving operational efficiency, environmental compliance and sustainability.

The company said it had already completed the signing of eight contracts under its LTOM programme for existing sewage treatment plants.-Saudi-Chinese consortium wins $348m sewage plants maintenance deal.-TradeArabia News Service
