Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi has expressed grave denunciation and unequivocal condemnation of the terrorist attack perpetrated by the Houthi militia targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which resulted in a number of casualties, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
Albudaiwi stressed that deliberately targeting civilian airports and travellers demands urgent international action and decisive deterrence to prevent the recurrence of such assaults, which flagrantly violate fundamental humanitarian principles and international conventions.
The secretary-general reaffirmed that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an indivisible part of GCC collective security, underscoring the council's absolute solidarity and full backing for all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its citizens, residents, critical infrastructure, and territorial integrity.
Albudaiwi extended his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a swift recovery, stated the SPA report.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) had announced that on October 8, King Khalid International Airport was targeted by two attacks. The first attack targeted the airport's facilities, while the second targeted a Saudia aircraft.
Emergency response teams and the relevant authorities responded immediately in accordance with established protocols and the applicable emergency response plans, it added.
