Oman and Yemen have signed two cooperation agreements in Salalah covering an electricity interconnection project linking Oman’s Dhofar Governorate grid with Yemen’s Al Mahra Governorate network.

The agreements aim to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the power sector and support reliable electricity supplies in Al Mahra through connections with the Dhofar electricity grid.

The first agreement was signed by Ali Shammas, CEO of Nama for Dhofar Services, and Othman Owaid, Director General of Yemen’s Public Electricity Corporation in Al Mahra.

The second was signed by Ahmed Al Abri, CEO of Nama for Power and Water Procurement, and Mohsen Balhaf, Director of the Yemen Petroleum Company in Al Mahra.

Under the project, electricity will initially be supplied to Hawf and Shahn through the distribution network, with estimated loads of 3 MW and 5 MW respectively.

Supplies to Al Ghaydah could reach up to 50 MW.

The project is expected to strengthen energy infrastructure, meet electricity demand and support stability and development in Al Mahra, while benefiting social and commercial activity in the governorate. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
