Abu Dhabi-based Global South Utilities (GSU) has achieved several major milestones in 2025, including the expansion of its renewable energy portfolio across Africa, thus contributing to powering more than 500,000 homes. In Egypt, it was part of an international consortium to develop a $220m solar plant facility.
Abu Dhabi-based Global South Utilities (GSU), a resources investment company, has inaugurated a 5 MWp grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Berbera and launched the Green Berbera Vision - a structured transition of the city’s electricity system from diesel dependence to renewable-powered generation supported by battery storage, establishing Berbera as a model renewable transition hub in the Horn of Africa.
The UAE’s new $1 billion investment portfolio in Yemen will help provide between two and three million homes with clean energy through solar and wind projects, said Ali Alshimmari, Managing Director and CEO of Global South Utilities (GSU).
