Khareef Dhofar 2026 to feature 125 cultural, tourism events

Dhofar Municipality in Oman has unveiled the 2026 Khareef Dhofar season programme, which will run from 21 June to 21 September, featuring 125 cultural, artistic, sporting and entertainment events across multiple wilayats and tourist destinations in Dhofar Governorate.

The initiative aims to strengthen the governorate’s position as a leading global tourism destination and attract visitors from within Oman and abroad.

The announcement was made during a press conference chaired by Dhofar Municipality Chairman Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, who outlined the season’s key programmes, venues and preparations.

He said the 2026 edition introduces a refreshed identity for event sites, designed to enhance visitor experiences by giving each location a distinct cultural and entertainment character inspired by its natural surroundings.

Key venues include Itin Square, offering international shows and cultural events, and the City Centre area in the Itin Plain, featuring gardens, markets, live performances and light shows.

Other destinations include the Modern Waterfront in Itin Plain, Salalah Public Garden’s Health Garden, Al Morooj Theatre, and “Child’s Time” at Awqad Public Garden.

New and renewed sites such as Osara project on Raysut Beach, Nova Entertainment, Al Gharif event, Raysut Marina Waterfront, Lamer Al Mughsail and Samharam Heritage Village will offer family-friendly activities, dining, retail and leisure experiences.

A major feature is the “Return of the Past” event, showcasing Omani heritage, traditions and handicrafts. Modern attractions include sports, health and awareness programmes, theatrical performances, concerts, seminars, and the Salalah Festival for World Cup football fans at the Modern Waterfront.

A dedicated children’s zone, “Child’s Time,” will provide interactive learning experiences simulating real professions, alongside a “Children’s University” to develop skills and creativity.

The season also includes musical and choral performances from Arab and international artists, including groups from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Egypt, as well as comedy shows and heritage symphonies.

Sports events include the Dhofar Marathon, cycling races, Tour of Salalah and shooting championships at Samharam Village.

Activities will extend beyond Salalah to Taqah, Mirbat and Sadah, spreading tourism and economic benefits across the governorate.

International highlights include the second Dhofar International Theatre Festival (14–22 September 2026), with prizes up to $50,000, and the inaugural Dhofar International Sculpture Festival featuring global artists inspired by Oman’s cultural identity.

Officials said the season is designed as an integrated tourism experience combining heritage, culture, sports and entertainment, and is expected to attract significant visitor numbers from Oman and abroad. -TradeArabia News Service
