Dammam Airports has signed a design contract with WSP for the development of King Fahd International Airport in line with the airport’s approved master plan.

Mohammed Al-Hassany, Dammam Airports CEO, and Dean McGrail, WSP President for the Middle East and Asia, signed the agreement, which marks a key step in the airport’s planned expansion and modernization.

Al-Hassany said the project reflects Dammam Airports’ commitment to upgrading facilities, increasing capacity and providing a seamless travel experience through modern design solutions and smart technologies.

The development is also intended to accommodate future growth in passenger and air cargo traffic and strengthen the airport’s role as an international gateway connecting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region with the world.

The project includes the design of expanded passenger terminals, facility upgrades, improved airport entrances and access roads, as well as enhanced baggage handling systems, digital services and terminal wayfinding.

Under the master plan, King Fahd International Airport is expected to serve more than 19.3 million passengers annually by 2030.

Capacity will then be increased in phases to 32 million passengers per year to meet future demand.

The plan also targets annual air cargo capacity of more than 600,000 tonnes and aircraft operational capacity of 77 movements per hour.

These targets will be supported by expanded infrastructure, runways and general aviation facilities.

Dammam Airports said the contract forms part of its wider efforts to improve operational efficiency and develop the airport ecosystem in support of Saudi Arabia’s Aviation Program and Vision 2030. -TradeArabia News Service
